Resolved Question: The start of a novel ? Can someone read this and tell me what they think please.?

This is something i threw together yesterday on my day off from work. Im in the medical field hence the nature of my writing. Ive never written before and i want to know if i should continue. i have lots (and lots) of interesting material for a novel. Question is should i bother to continue? Thanks for the help. 1.Breakfast for Sausages 'The Three Monkeys' Bar and Grill. A cacophony of boisterous voices, music, and song emanated from out of our sanctuary. Dark brown timber panelling, alcohol stained, port-wine coloured carpet. Tables and chairs of unequal shape, size, and make. It was an altogether disparate establishment. And we liked it so. Located within close proximity to the University of Sydney, the bar was surrounded by terrace houses, flats, and a small shopping centre. It was a difficult place to find if you weren’t familiar with the region. My friend Tomas had often commented ‘it would be easier for a virgin to find a clitoris than to find the Three Monkeys’ The Bar was usually frequented by students. Today appeared no different with students milling about, enjoying each other’s company as well as the company of their intoxicating beverages. A difference existed in the minds of the students, however. Today was the last day of their exams and it was due time for celebration. Some celebrated the end of another year and of the holidays that were to come. We celebrated the end of university itself, and the beginning of our hitherto hard-worked-for professional lives. Tammy and I had arrived early enough (perhaps unnecessarily) to acquire our favourite table in the back end of the bar. It was quieter here – this likely due to the fact that the bars toilets were located within a close proximity. The stink didn't bother us. We had grown accustomed to such smells over the past few years. That same stink would assuredly have to linger with us for a few more years to come. “He was supposed to be here when we arrived.” Tammy admonished sipping her bourbon and coke. “It’s alright. Tomas has always been a late comer. Lectures, parties, funerals…you name it and he’ll be late for it.” I said smiling furtively. “Well he’d best be on time for our wedding” “Set a date yet?” “No. Nothings confirmed. It’s not easy thinking about future wedding plans when you’ve got those damn final catechisms hanging over your head.” “Well, those ‘catechisms’ are over for now” I said breathing my own sigh of relief. The final year medical exams weren’t the most difficult. Previously, I’d had to endure much more tiresome and trying exams - Anatomy being a prime example. These exams had been more of a mental hurdle. Like the last few metres of a marathon when a runner knows he is close to the end of his heat, but not quite. One misplaced step at the end of his run, at his most critical juncture, could spell disaster. “So? Are you going home for the holidays?” she asked, changing topic as she was apt to do. “No. Not this year.” I didn’t actually have a home to go to – not a welcome home. “And you?” I asked, quickly turning the question around. “Yeah... It’s expected yah know?” “Yeah...” No. I didn’t ‘know’. “She’s looking at you again” “Who is?” I asked slightly puzzled. Tammy had suddenly changed topic yet again, catching me completely off guard. “Madeline! Who else?” She laughed. I was facing Tammy and the toilet cubicles - blind to most of the interior of the bar. I turned slowly. Behind me, the Bar and its patrons went about their business. On the far side of the room past dozens of students, stood Madeline. She was looking in our direction, holding a pool cue in one hand, no doubt waiting for her turn in an ongoing game of pool. She wore her usual black attire – black boots, black skirt, and a black blouse. Her dazzlingly red shoulder length curls of hair setting her alight. “Oh.” I droned. Turning back to Tammy I took a large swig from the beer glass before me. “She’s playing pool with Giuseppe.” Tammy chuckled. “You two have always had a thing going on haven’t you? What’s stopping the two of you from getting to know each other on a more intimate level?” ‘Me’ I silently thought to myself. “I think you’re imagining things Tammy.” “Imagining? Everyone sees it Sean. If anyone’s imagining...” “Hey guys” It was Tomas at last. With relief I turned to Tomas and quickly changed the topic for my own benefit. “Where have you been pal? You can stop studying now you realise?” “I’ll say” added Tammy “And you can also start paying more attention to your fiancé” “Ha-Ha. Just been clearin’ my room out. It’s time to move on and all. Y’know?” “Well why don’t you move on tomorrow? What’s the rush?” Tammy asked as she kissed Tomas with an odd, angry hunger. “It’s time to have some fun.” Tomas was still wearing a long sleeve shirt, pants, and a tie printed with daffodils – Tammy’s favourite flower. They were the same clothes he’d been wearing during his clinical examination earlier today. I’d since changed to couldn't get the whole write up on the page unfortunately....  more

Resolved Question: ...Boy Died After Spraying Deodorant....how many read the warning labels on there underarm spray i no i don't ?

Boy Died After Spraying Deodorant Thursday, November 20 01:41 pm Sky News Print Story A 12-year-old boy died when his heart failed after he sprayed on too much deodorant, an inquest has been told. Skip related content Related photos / videos Boy Died After Spraying Deodorant Daniel Hurley, from Sandiacre, Derbyshire, was found collapsed in his bathroom by his father Robert Hurley after using Lynx Vice deodorant. Derby Coroner's Court heard that use of the spray in a confined space led to Daniel suffering a cardiac arrhythmia. Mr Hurley tried to revive his son but he died at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham on January 12, five days after he was found. Mr Hurley told the inquest: "He was always putting gel on his hair and spraying deodorant and it was quite common for him to spray his clothing as well. "The bathroom is adjacent to the kitchen and I made some tea and shouted into the bathroom to see if he was OK. "I heard nothing so I shouted again but did not get a reply. I forced the door open and found Daniel in the bath." Consultant pathologist Dr Andrew Hitchcock, who carried out the post mortem examination on Daniel, told the inquest there was no evidence he had abused alcohol or drugs. Derby and South Derbyshire Coroner Dr Robert Hunter said manufacturer Unilever provided adequate warnings on cans of the deodorant that large amounts should not be used in a confined space. He said: "It seems the presence of a volatile agent caused the cardiac arrhythmia. Daniel copiously used deodorant in the bathroom. "I do not know how many people read the warnings about exposure awareness. "But people need to know about the risks that these products have on the cardiovascular system." He recorded a verdict of accidental death. wot i find shocking is i no im a very responsible parent and it has never occured to me to not let my teens just use this stuff and my girls must bath in it ...and i do no that im not on my own as millions will by some for friends and family for christmas this year .. yes it is very frightening  more

Resolved Question: Ramadan: Life is short?

I have just read the details on Baby P's death. It brought tears to my eyes. But i do not understand fully. Is the cause of Baby P's death child abuse? Did Baby P's mother hit her own baby? Ya allah. Mar 1, 2006: Baby P is born. Dec 11: Baby P is taken to his GP with a head injury, bruising to his nose and right shoulder. Mother "flustered" and claims he had fallen off the settee and been scratched by the dog. Baby P referred to Haringey Social Services and mother later arrested for assault. Jan 26, 2007: Baby P returns to the care of his mother while she is still on police bail. Mar 22: Social worker Maria Ward notices Baby P has a red mark on the side of his chin. The mother claims he bumped into a side table at her friend's home. Health visitor Paulette Thomas completes a one-year check and reports "no concerns". Apr 9: The mother takes Baby P to hospital with a large swelling and bruising on the left side of his head and a small bruise on his right cheek. Social services are informed and a diagnosis of possible meningitis is made. June 1: Ms Ward finds some bruising under the chin and a red line under his eye. Later, medical staff at hospital find 12 areas of bruising. June 5: The mother is arrested for a second time and questioned by police. She claims she is a "damn good mum". June 8: Photographs of a bruise at the centre of his spine are taken during a visit to his home by the police child protection team. June 12: Childminder tells social services of concerns about sore on Baby P's head and says the toddler is often unwashed, smells of vomit and always seems to be hungry. July 30: Ms Ward makes her last visit to see Baby P. He is in his buggy and has chocolate smears over his face and hands, and anti-bacterial cream on his scalp - to obscure injuries. Aug 1: Baby P visits St Anne's hospital, allegedly suffering from fractured ribs and a broken back, paralysing him from the waist down. Dr Sabah al-Zayyat notes bruises to the body and face but does not carry out a full examination because Baby P is "miserable and cranky". In evidence, she insists "he didn't look any different from a child of his age with a common cold." Aug 3: A 999 call is made. Baby P is taken to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. The baby only lived for 2 years. Fellow Muslims, does this not show us something? We should apperciate our life. We should apperciate the LITTLEST things in life. And do you think the mother of Baby P deserves to be sent to prison or sentenced to a death pentalty? And what about the social workers and doctors? Are they so little-minded that they did not know the cause of Baby P's injuries?  more

Resolved Question: Who would like to read my letter and help edit my English grammar?

Pls Pls Pls help, I really need to win this. Pls give me any comment. Is this a good letter or is it rude? Thanks :o To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to you regarding the subject (XXX XXX XXX XXX XXX) I have been told I have to repeat. I disagree with the decision that the Examination committee has been made. Because I strongly believe that I took this subject seriously and have put a certain effort in it. I had a good record of attendance, I participated in every class activities and I handed in all of my assignments. Firstly, all of the assignments in this subject set to be group work. XXX XXX is the only person in my group. At first we both did pretty well but about few weeks after the semester started, she kept missing out classes, I hardly see her in the college and I could not contact her at all. Therefore the first part of the project (Proposal) ended up in a rush and the work has finished badly. For the other project (Crosstrack), I knew I could not rely on her anymore and she was disappeared again so I decided not to contact her and did everything all the way alone and I finally manage to finish my project. In my opinion, this was a group assignment, most groups have three people or at least two people and I had to do it by myself, I think this is already unfair to a student. Secondly, I became very ill during week 16 in semester one and I rarely come to class during that week. There had about 3 assignments due on Friday, 13th June. ‘Wine Label’ for XXX XXX, a ‘Written Report’ for XXX XXX and a ‘Crosstrack’ design for XXX XXX. For the wine label, I finished early so I dropped it into XXX’s Drop Box in the server around Wednesday, 11th June. For XXX and XXX assignments, I was unable to come to the college on the due date. So I came to the college on Monday, 16th June, I printed both of my assignments in color in the Resource Centre and after that I gave my assignments to XXX in the administration and signed two late work forms accompanied with the copy of my medical certificate. Unfortunately, the Crosstrack assignment is ridiculously missing. Thirdly, I feel unfair of I was the one who have completed all the work but I have received a fail and XXX who did not come to class and did not complete anything and she receives a pass in this subject. As a former law student, I have always believed that the world has justice and everyone should deserve what they deserved. I believe that I should deserve more than a pass in this subject, if I have to repeat this subject then I think I need to repeat all of my subjects. Because I had the same attitude in all of my subjects that I have done in semester one and I handed in all of my assignments for each subjects. I am very disappointed with the college’s Late Work Submission system, how can they lose a student’s work, I think this is ridiculously wrong and it is the administration responsibility. This is a valuable lesson to me, now I understand how important it is to hand in my assignment directly to my lecturer and nobody accept myself could be trusted. I hope that you could consider my appeal. Thank you for your consideration. Best regards, XXX XXX Student number: XXXXXX  more

Resolved Question: Among them, who got the most and who got the least jail-term discount? Why?

Predators’ crimes and punishment Abused in a graveyard While the country was celebrating Christmas on Dec 25, 2006, tree cutter K. Kamalason, 47, raped a five-year-old child in a Chinese graveyard in Kuantan. He inflicted his young victim with extremely serious internal injuries to her uterus, intestines and private parts. Kamalason is married with two children ages two and six and was sentenced 20 years in jail and 20 strokes of the rotan. Her stepfather, her rapist As a stepfather, Zulkarnain Ramle, 40, of Kampung Sourabaya Hulu, Petra Jaya in Sarawak should have protected and cared for his stepchildren. Instead, Zulkarnain raped his 11-year-old stepdaughter three years ago when both her mother and elder sister were not at home. The child told her mother, who lodged a police report and her daughter taken for a medical examination. Zulkarnain was sentenced to 12 years in jail on Nov 3, 2003. On her way to work On Oct 7, 2000, computer engineer Noor Suzaily Mukhtar, 24, boarded a Metro bus from Kuala Lumpur to her workplace in Klang. It was like any other day during her two-week attachment at a medical centre in Port Klang. After the bus driver, Hanafi Mat Hassan, 38, dropped off the last remaining passenger at the Klang bus stand, he changed routes towards Banting and pulled over at the Bukit Tinggi project site. Noor Suzaily tried to escape but the doors were locked. The windows were heavily tinted so she could not draw attention. Hanafi raped her and used her headscarf to strangle her before tossing her naked body out of the bus. His wife had just given birth three days ago. Noor Suzaily was dressed in a long skirt and tudung. Yet police said the murderer claimed he tak tahan (unable to control his lust). Bomoh dupes teenage dropout She was 14, has dropped out of school, and living with her parents in Berenang, Kajang. When she started suffering from unexplainable pains in her legs in July 2000, her father, a retired soldier, took her to see a trusted family friend who was a bomoh. He told her she would die if she wasn’t cured of her elephantiasis disease. He convinced the girl’s father to set aside a room in their house to perform special prayers and treatments which could only be carried out after midnight to cure her. Over three years, the bomoh undressed the girl, raped and sodomised her while her parents slept. Before the “treatments”, the bomoh had forced the girl to spiritually marry him so they could have sex. She warned the girl not to inform her parents as the treatments must be kept a secret. In July 2003, the girl broke her silence and lodged a police report. The bomoh is learnt to have seven wives and was previously acquitted of a charge of conducting a marriage ceremony contrary to Islamic law at the Lower Syariah court in Malacca. Bomoh dupes high achiever student She was 16 and scored 9As in her PMR. Then she started losing interest in her studies in 2002. Her worried father, a businessman, brought her to a famous bomoh, as he believed his daughter has been put under a spell. The bomoh carried out his services in a hotel room. For several weeks, the businessman sent his daughter to the bomoh and waited in the lobby. By the time, he became suspicious, his daughter had been raped several times. The suspect reportedly has treatment centres in Pahang, Johor and other states. Police started a hunt for the bomoh who has since been on the run. Consensual sex or statutory rape? Thor Guan Aik asked the right question to his teenage girlfriend before having sex with her two years ago in Sungai Nibong, Penang, “How old are you?” She told him she was 16, which was old enough, so they had sex. She was actually 14 and the case went to court as statutory rape. On Oct 18, 2005, a Sessions Court freed Thor of the charge, ruling that the couple had consensual sex. The girl refused to testify in court. The judge also ruled her evidence as contradictory to the doctor and investigating officers’ testimonies. His release prompted women’s groups to call for an amendment of the Evidence Act to allow videotaped evidence to be allowed in cases. Raped after birthday bash In August 2004, lorry attendant Jailani Budin, 21, was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to six charges of raping a Form Three girl after helping to celebrate her 15th birthday. Jailani, who had two previous convictions for break-ins, took the girl on his motorcycle to three locations at different times. Although there was no element of violence, DPP Muhamad Iskandar Ahmad, pressed for the maximum sentence because he said rape offences were on the rise. Jailani’s wife was pregnant at the time he committed the offence. The Nurul Huda Gani case Jailani being led away by police after he was sentenced at the Sessions Court in Shah Alam. With her home just 300m from the Tenaga Nasional Berhad sub-station in Kampung Pekajang, Tanjung Kupang in Galang Patah, Johor Baru, little Nurul Huda Gani had probably passed security guard Mohd Abbas Danus Baksan, 46, before, on her way to the nearby grocery shop. On Jan 17, 2004, Mohd Abbas was convicted of dragging Nurul Huda into the station, raping and then murdering her. When she didn’t return home, her worried brother and two sisters came looking for her. She was found in a squatting position inside a toilet at the station. On Aug 28, 2004, Mohd Abbas was sentenced 20 years’ jail and 24 strokes of the rotan for raping the child, and sentenced to death for murdering her. He maintained his innocence that another security guard had been the killer. The serial rapist In January 2006, Beh Soon Hock (pic left), 39, lost his appeal against a sentence of 60 years and 24 strokes of the rotan for five offences of rape, sodomy, robbery and theft. High Court Justice Abdull Hamid Embong, who rejected Beh’s appeal, said he agreed that the sentences imposed on him by a lower court were appropriate. Beh had raped a South Korean woman and sodomised an Irish woman and a 10-year-old Kuwaiti boy. The unemployed bachelor had 53 previous convictions mostly for theft, housebreaking and mischief committed between 1985 and 1996. The pensioner who raped In August this year, Mat Saad Md Isa, 61, was convicted of raping an eight-year-old in a house in Sentul in 2001. The judge ordered to serve his 19-and-a-half years’ sentence for rape and four-and-a-half years’ sentence for an indecent act. He used a condom A roti canai seller raped his daughter and paid her RM5 as a “reward” to keep quiet. Court of Appeal judges unanimously rejected the 49-year-old father’s appeal to reduce his jail term in June 2008, after the defendant’s lawyer said, in mitigation, that he used a condom each time he raped the child. The man was sentenced to 36 years and 20 strokes of the rotan by the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Aug 20, 2004 after he pleaded to four counts of raping his 11-year-old daughter at their house between May 2003 and Aug 9, 2004. Resolved Question: What's your take on US banning nurses from the Philipines.?

Dave C. called me on this so hears the article. It's a bit old so there might be some changes to it. Philippines to appeal US nurse ban Fri Feb 16, 11:34 PM ET MANILA (AFP) - The Philippine government is to appeal a move by the US to ban some 17,000 nurses who passed the 2006 nursing examination amid allegations of mass cheating. ADVERTISEMENT The United States Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) issued the temporary ban this week insisting that Filipino nurses retake sections of the 2006 examination where mass cheating took place. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday ordered Labor Secretary Arturo Brion to appeal the decision. The order comes after a nursing review centre disclosed it had leaked answers to some students who took the examinations. The scandal rocked the country's medical profession and cast a shadow over the quality of its nurses, who are in high demand overseas, especially in the United States, Europe and the Middle East I like to say most Philipino's working in Hospitals did pass fair and square. I don't want people to freak out. In the past those who cheated eventually gets fired, but with the nursing shortage, hospitals are more likely to look away now. By teh way. One of the tricks used to cheat in board exam is to make fake ideas, and have some one qualified to take the exam for them.  more

Voting Question: can someone proofread my essay and give me some suggestions?

Title: describe a place spatially (i chose an abandoned emergency room) Resting in the centre of the trauma room stands an enormous bed. It’s clean, blue blanket now turned to a dirty, dark gloomy shade of grey mess. All the medical supplies scattered on the surface of the bed, with these stained, black blood spots. Above the bed stands a huge halogen light bulb, which half the glass is broken. Spread out on the table next to the bed sit untidily wrapped bandages, covered with dried out blood. Positioned above the doorway to the doctors’ lounge, which is adjacent to the examination room, holds a bloody surgical robe. The smell of blood fulfilled in this large area, draws people out of this ominous, daunting area. Centred on the wall rests an old, brown, leather couch, now covered with a heavy layer of dust and dirt. Cold, frightening, billowing wind keeps coming from the broken window on the left side, ruffles the paper on the table on the other side. Next comes the heart of the emergency room. This huge, open resuscitation area not only proves this hospital’s once-while success, but also tells the downfall of its history. The once crowded bay area now become empty, left with a huge, chaotic mess. By the entrance stands a bronze statue, which labels the founder of the hospital. Its formerly bright, glistening surface now becomes dull, and sarcastic. Over all the broken chairs and the wrecked vending machine, it comes to the main entrance of the room. In the recently years thousands of patients came in and out from this entrance, but now the crowded sight would not be happened again. This scene of the emergency room creates a cold, lonely atmosphere that depicts this old, abandoned County General Hospital.  more
