Resolved Question: Can someone read this MRI?
I had this MRI done cause ive been having numbness with pain shooting down my right leg, all the way down to my foot. Shouldnt they have used contrast?? Is there a reason why I can still have pain in my leg but have a normal MRI? LUMBAR SPINE MRI-WO CONTRAST HISTORY: 1. Spina bifida 2. Radiculopathy. COMPARE: 6/21/2009, 6/03/2009 TECHNIQUE: Sagittal, axial, and coronal T1 and T2-weighted images of the lumbar spine were performed. FINDINGS: Alignment of the lumbar vertebrae is normal. The conus medullaris has a normal appearance terminating at L1. Developmentally, the lumbar vertebral canal is normal in size; no osseous abnormalities of significance are demonstrated. There is no evidence of tethered cord syndrome, meningocele, or fibrolipoma. From the L1-2 to the L5-S1 levels, the neural foramina are patent. There is no disc protrusion, central canal stenosis, or other abnormality. The intervertebral discs are all normally hydrated. The spina bifida occulta of S1 is demonstrated as evident on the radiograph of 6/21/2009. I would really appreciate it if a medical doctor could answer this question. If you are a doctor and have a clue what all this means I would be very grateful if you could explain it to me or summarize it. Here is the MRI report: Vertibrae L2 and L3 mild: central with left sided neural foraminal narrowing. Lumbar 3 and 4 diffused moderate central disc bulge resulting in moderate spinal canal stenosis and bilateral neural foraminal narrowing. L4 and L5 diffused moderate to severe posterior disc osteophyte complex when coupled with ligamentum flavum hypertrophy resulting in moderate to severe spinal canal stenosis and bilateral neural foraminal narrowing. I had an MRI without contrast and picked up my reading today. Since I am NOT savvy about anything spinal, please help me decipher the results: Note: I DO know what degenerative disc disease is and I know the location of the disc L5-S1 but am clueless about most of the rest. Study type: MRI of the lumbar spine without contrast. 1. There is mild levoscoliotic curvature with normal alignment 2. The L4-5 Level demonstrates mild degenerative disc disease with disc desiccation and mild narrowing. There is a mild central disc bulge and early bilateral facet arthropathy. There is no central canal or foraminal stenosis. 3. The L5-S1 level demonstrates mild degenerative disease with desiccation and narrowing. There is a small broad based left paracentral disc protrusion which partially fills the left lateral recess and touches the left S1 nerve root within the canal. I was diagnosed with a severe bulge between my L3/L4 in my lower lumbar, along with spinal stenosis. I have been in agonizing pain for almost two weeks now. I went to my GP, who sent me to get an MRI and put me on 7.5 mg hydrocodone and 50 mg Ultram twice daily (both meds). After the MRI results, I was scheduled to see a neurosurgeon. I'm not scheduled to see him a week from Monday. I was sent to his assistant in the meantime, who put me on 10 mg hydro 3x/daily and kept me on the Ultram, but increased the dose to 3x/daily. He also gave me oral steroids to try. My problem is I'm still in excruciating pain. I crawl around my house because my back hurts so bad. I'm laying in the floor in an awkward position just to type this. Is it OK to ask my doctor for some pain medication that is stronger and works longer? It doesn't feel like these meds are doing anything to me at all. The doctor won't be offended if I ask for something stronger will he? My back pain started in August, shortly after I attempted suicide in July, I woke up one day trying to get out of bed with back pain, since then my doctor told me through xrays that i have spinal stenosis (narrowing of the vertebra), then my ct scan which showed i have a compression fracture (he didnt mention where it was, i dont know why, somewhere in my lumbar) i have a mri this weekend and a bone scan a few days later, he told me it could possibly be cancer, i dont want to believe this though, and i am trying everday to get that thought out of my head but its always there, atleast until i get results back. of course the pain has been steadily getting worse, i cant walk or stand for more than a few minutes, i obviously cant even excersize or clean house, i cant do anything and this really annoys me. im 27, so all this that is happening is baffling me, and i think my doctor as well, because he said its unusual. heres one link, one of many ive been reading, from the info youve read, can you give me your opinion please? http://www.kyphon.com/us/physician.aspx?contentid=83&siteid=1 OHHH and also, i have had NO trauma, thats one question my doctor asked me, no trauma has occured from my back paain i have never had any prior back problems, im actually somewhat active, one of my concerns is that my grandmother as well had developed cancer from smoking, obviously it was lung cancer, she even lost her leg because of her smoking, im worried that because cancer runs in the family that i might have it, and it will really suck if it is cancer and happens to be lung, ive smoked cigs every once in a while, certainly not enough to cause cancer, but i dont know... moreResolved Question: I have L4-5 severe disc degeneration, with the same thing in L5-S1 + a 5mm disc bulge at L4-S & L5-S1.cont'd?

I have had a discectomy at the L4-L5 lumbar spine area of my back for sciatica and since then I have been diagnosed with numerous other diseases. I am trying to find facts that can show that the diseases I have now were caused by my initial back injury. I now have Degenerative Osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, Lumbar and Cervical Spinal Stenosis,Chronic Pain Syndrome,Fibromyalgia,Osteophytes on the spine, numerous herniated discs in my neck and lower back with pinched nerves and Sciatica again. This all started with an injury to my lower back at the L4-L5 location 25 years ago and has progressed to all of these conditions today. Is there anyone out there that can tell me where to go to to get the info to determine if all of these diseases are a result of my initial injury to my lower back ? I need to prove that these diseases are all related to my back injury and is a result of this injury. If anyone can guide me to the right place for the info or a person that may be able to help me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All, MJ12 moreResolved Question: Can coccygeal pain be secondary to spinal stenosis?
I suffer from coccygeal pain, however the pain presents similar to lumbar stenosis. It radiates to the thighs, is exacerbated when walking, alleviated when sitting, and less severe when walking down hill while being more severe when walking up hill. I always have a forward posture, as this alleviates the pain to a degree as well. This matches everything I read about spinal stenosis, however the pain (apart from when it radiates) is midline, directly on the coccyx. It presents more like stenosis or levator ani syndrome (closer to the former than the latter) than typical coccyx pain, though. Last year I slipped and fell at walmart very badly due to water on the floor. I could not even get up off the floor. The ambulence had to come and get me up off the floor and take me to the hospital. Anyway, i contacted a lawyer because walmart would not call me back when they called me and was starting a case. But i kept calling them back, and they wouldnt call me back. They finally did and they commited fault and it was for only 300$. I was like hell no! All this pain? and all i get is that? Well I had a MRI from the dr that ordered it from my lawyer. I am seeing a chyropractioner, and im going to physical therapy. The MRI read, ( im just posting this, to see if any of you know what is wrong, and if its that bad, and how much you think i can get.) THERE IS 5 THINGS LISTED, 1. There are central disc herniations at the L4-5 and L5-S1 levels. 2.Broad disc bulges are at L3-4 and superimposed at L4-5 and L5-S1 3.Mild spinal stenosis occurs at L4-5 and L5-S1 4.Bilaterial foraminal narrowing is at L3-4 to L5-S1. Clinical correlation recommeneded for corresponding radiculopathies. 5.Diffuse straightening of the expected lumbar lordosis suggests muscololigamentous injury or sprain. The chyropractor is also sending to me to a back surgeon. So what do you all think is wrong, and how much do you think i can get??? I need "serious" help. I cannot sleep "AT" all!!!!!? To any and who responds, I thank you now for taking your time. My story Is a bit long, but If you want to help, It Is as follows: On the morning of May 30, 2006, 7:59 AM. I had a sever accident at work falling roughly 20' feet down onto a ladder that was still somewhat falling, but still on Its own two legs In an up-right position, and me coming down onto a concrete floor. I broke both my ankles Immediately. Multiple Major sprains scattered throughout my body, tore all of my lateral ligaments In my ankle area, tendons ripped, fractured my HIP In two places "hairline", My ribs were hairline fractured as-well and my back was Injured with Internal bleeding throughout my body, My boss just stood there and never helped me get up, or even check to see If I was still even alive. MRI's showed proof of all, Including a right foraminal disc herniation at LV4-5 with right foraminal stenosis of my lumbar section of the spinal cord. I already had surgery on my right ankle, and I'm awaiting other results of other matters. I'm 6'2" and weigh In at about 240 lbs. kinda a big guy due to working out regularly before all of this. Ive been through Injuries like broken toes, head liaisons and more getting used to crutches like falling down stairs, or falling when trying to use the bathroom because I was medicated and always dizzy. Well since that all occurred I find my biggest problem other then getting some-what better due to God's hands that heal, I cannot sleep for days at a time. Now this causes me big time problems. Sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy, all the dark Is to dark, and light Is to light. Sounds are way to loud to my ears, and every time I start to get tired, I JOLT and wake up again. I do not drink nor smoke, do not use any drugs other then pharmaceutical medication Issued by my primary doctor. Thing Is I'm up to the point were I need at the very least 19, Yes "19" pills every 5 hours to rest. I don't want to parish and I know this Is killing my organs and mentally I'm torn apart. Even my own family doesn't really talk to me anymore other then my kid brother who I love so much I'd give my own life for him. I hope he knows I'm so proud of him, but know It affects him negatively, and an older brother whom I helped-out majorly screwed me and In return received nothing but trouble, mental vanquish, major Issues with my mom, who by the way was the one who manipulated me Into helping him out, I guess that's what mom's do because of Infinite love for siblings, I already knew he was very UN-trustworthy and Into drugs and drinking. I only did It for my mom, and only her, I received a very small cash advance that was supposed to come from Frank, but was really my mothers burial money, and this was some real shady business from my older brother, and his so called partner called Luke, a "Kiss" fan. They both knew what they were doing to me with this shaky deal, but knowing no better I Innocently went with It since I couldn't walk as It was anyway. Now and then when we see each-other, he just pretends like there's not a 356,000.00 thousand dollar house that Is still In my name over TWO years later when It was supposed to be three months, and like he always swore to give me a profit of of150.00$ dollars a month from the rent.. Please, what am I gonna do with that, buy me some Gatorade and a few turkey sandwich's. Even that Tiny effort he never for-filled.. I'm sure Its confusing to the reader, but to me Its not, just complicated to those who don't walk In these 13" shoes, I will never forgive nor will I be the same person to Frank and all who had anything to do with my life turning shady and black. And Ray, how could you! How dare you! I'm not a dog.... Luckily I'm not a physical rebellion but I'm like death did us all part to Frank and Ray, and I'm still here through everything for myself and all of who still care, and aren't quick to judge. Money, Laughter, Sleep, Friends, Cool Cars, Going out, Jokes, Holiday meals together, just about everything, even breathing doesn't come easily.. I just wish to have my life back to normal where I work, and "hell, why not.. hit the gym again, being part of society, Instead of this closing myself off to everyone and staying alone In my room all day,, and maybe If I'm lucky, I might play my guitar or not If I have the energy to do so. Can anyone relate to me, or am I like the only one of my kind with abnormal features which actually keep me ahead of many things, but physically, here I am writing! Does anyone know of somewhere, where maybe I can pack a bag like yesterday and leave my house, admitting myself to be studied/helped and monitored for this very serious condition. Mild central spinal stenosis at L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1, maily due to hypertrophic degenerative facet joint disease with mild hypertrophy of the ligament flava. A small central to right paramedian disc protrusion at L5-S1 without never root impingement. It also mentions mild annular bulging of discs at T11-T12, L1-L2, L2-L3, L3-L4 and L4-L5 causing slight ventral flattening or indentation without focal disc herniation. Although it sounds like there are several different areas of problems, I've never had any type of back trama or car accident etc. Please advise if this is serious and if I should be seen quickly. My husband went to have an MRI done for lower back pain can anyone explain the findings in English??? LUMBAR SPINE MR Technique: Sagittal T1, T2 and STIR sequences were obtained through the lumbar spine. Axial T1 and T2 weighted images were also obtained. Findings: The individual lumbar vertebral bodies and normally aligned. No compression fractures are present. There is no bone marrow edema. No pars defects are noted. There is loss of disc height and disc desiccation at the L5-S1 level. The remaining discs have maintained relatively normal signal. On the axial images at L1-L2, no degenerative changes are noted. At L2-L3, L3-L4 and L4-L5, there do appear to be mild facet degenerative changes. There is no spinal canal or foraminal stenosis. No focal disc abnormality is present. At L5-S1, there is a broad based shallow central disc protrusion. There is an associated annular tear. This effaces the ventral thecal sac and contributes to minimal spinal canal stenosis. Disc material does approach the descending S1 nerve roots bilaterally in the lateral recesses. There is mild lateral recess stenosis. There are no significant facet degenerative changes. The neural foramina are not narrowed. IMPRESSION 1. Central broad based disc protrusion at the L5-S1 level. There is minimal spinal canal stenosis. There is some associated mild stenosis of the lateral recesses bilaterally. This may affect the descending S1 nerve roots. Recommend clinical correlation with the level of any radicular symptoms. 2. Mild degenerative changes in the facet joints at multiple levels as described above. moreResolved Question: How many years could a person take 60mg of MS CONTIN every 12 hours ?

No gross marrow signal abnormality. At the l3/4 level, no significant disc bulge, lateral recess or foraminal stenosis. At the L4/5 level, no significant disc bulge, lateral recess or foraminal stenosis. Mmild facet joint hyertrophy only seen. At the L5/S1 level, there is abroad-based porterocentral disc bulge with bilateral paraforaminal components. This results in severe bilaterally at the level of the foramen with no significant displacement. There is no evidence of a impingement of the S1 nerve roots within the centtral canal. moreResolved Question: MRI--Lumbar spine w/o contrast---39 year old athletic male--Results for interpretation please?
IMPRESSION: Disc osteophyte complex at L3-L4 and w/o spinal canal stenosis. Suggestion of annular tear within the L3-L4 disc. mild narrowing of the bilateral neural foramina w/o compromised of the exiting nerve roots. Broad based disc osteophyte complex of the L4-L5 producing minimal stenosis of the spinal canal. The disc protrusion abuts the intra canal portion of the bilateral L5 nerve roots in correlation for an L5 radiculopathy is suggested. Ok, now in English please? moreResolved Question: Has anyone heard of TFAS the flexible spinal joint, used for lumbar stenosis?
My boyfriend was offered this as part of a clinical trial in lieu of laminotomy laminectomy (potential fusion)...it's an appliance placed in the back, instead of fusing 3 vertebra it goes between two and it allows a nearly full range of motion. It's new, but I wondered if anyone else had gone through this procedure? moreResolved Question: Has anyone with spinal stenosis (lumbar type) know if Rick Shiflets Amazing back Pain Remedy works?

1. Marrow signal is uniform. 2. The visualized portion of spinal cord & cauda equina are normal. Impression 1. Right sided eccentric disc herniation at L4-L5 causing spinal stenosis. 2. Degenerative changes at L2-L3 & L3-L4, but no disc herniation, spinal stenoisis or nerve root impingement at any other level. All my pain is in my right hip and severe at times. What would be or COULD be the treatment? moreResolved Question: info request?

also I experience a tingling sensation at times? moreResolved Question: Can lumbar stenosis cause meralgia parasthetica?
I've had pain and burning in my thighs severe enough to go on long term disability from my job. (I stand 10 hrs a day there, and standing makes it worse) I had an MRI which said I had congenital lumbar spinal stenosis and arthritis in my spine. I was sent to an ortho-surgeon. The ortho dismissed the stenosis since i'm relatively young - in my 30's - before even looking at the mri. After looking at it, he back-pedaled a bit, but still stood his ground saying it wasn't bad enough to cause that much pain. He ordered an EMG, which came back normal since the lateral cutaneous nerve, the problem nerve, isn't checked in the test. The doc who did the EMG said it was likely meralgia parasthetica in the report. When I went back to the ortho for the follow-up, he spent all of 2 minutes with me and said he was referring me to a physiatrist since meralgia was a MUSCLE problem! Should I trust him or get a second opinion on the stenosis? Can stenosis cause the meralgia? moreTo Lumbar Spinal Stenosis News
